Laid-off SAS staff are being offered fast-track training as healthcare workers

Last week, it was announced that staff who have been temporarily laid off from Scandinavian airline SAS will be offered fast-track training as healthcare workers. SAS has laid off more than 10,000 staff due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation will fund fast-track healthcare training for those staff, so that they can support the Swedish healthcare system. The course will be free for attendees, who will be trained in providing information to patients and their families, sterilising equipment, and basic administrative duties.

🔎 GLASS BOX BRANDS

In a transparent world, an organization’s internal culture is a key part of its public-facing brand. In other words, what happens inside your business is – or will eventually become – a part of who you are in the eyes of the world. That truth has never been more powerful or important than it is now. Due to the pandemic, almost every business is undergoing huge internal disruption. And many will be laying off staff, just as SAS is doing. When consumers see initiatives such as this one, which helps laid off staff to keep earning and helps support the Swedish healthcare system at a time of extreme need, they’ll soon start asking of every business: what did you do to support your people, and the broader society, during this moment?
